The United States is boosting its humanitarian assistance to South Sudan by an additional $100 million to provide critical food supplies to around one million people facing severe hunger.

According to a statement from the US Embassy in Juba, this aid package will deliver approximately 42,000 metric tons of food, raising the total US humanitarian aid to South Sudan to nearly $609 million for the current fiscal year.

The embassy emphasized the urgent need for action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

South Sudan is grappling with extreme levels of food insecurity, affecting over seven million people.

Additionally, the country has been overwhelmed by the influx of around 780,000 refugees fleeing the conflict in neighboring Sudan since the escalation of violence in April last year.
