President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met in Washington with a number of Republican leaders in the US House of Representatives, presidential spokesperson ambassador Bassam Rady said.
The president emphasized the strategy and strength of the Egyptian-US relations, expressing Egypt's appreciation for the role played by the US House of Representatives in strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
President Sisi said that Egypt is looking forward to continuing to upgrade and strengthen this partnership in various fields of bilateral cooperation within a framework of mutual respect and common interest, stressing his keenness to keep in contact with various decision-making circles in the United States, within the framework of coordination and consultation between the two friendly countries on various issues.
On their part, the Republican leaders expressed their honor to meet the President, stressing that Egypt represents a major ally of the United States in the Middle East region, expressing appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role as a pillar of security and stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean Basin and the African continent, in addition to Egypt's successful efforts to confront the danger of terrorism and extremist ideology, praising Egypt's balanced and rational endeavors under the leadership of Mr. President to reach solutions to the various crises the region is going through.
They also discussed the developments in the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. The president affirmed Egypt's firm position, which aims to preserve its water security by concluding a binding legal agreement regarding the rules of filling and operating the dam in order to ensure the historical natural flow of Nile water to Egypt, taking into account the total dependence of Egypt on the Nile River as a primary source of water.
