The United States is hosting a new round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in Washington, with US mediation aimed at advancing security and political agreements between the two neighbors.

The talks involve Lebanese political and security delegations and Israeli officials, with oversight from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Negotiations are taking place on two tracks. The security track focuses on consolidating the ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal from disputed areas, and monitoring arrangements. Lebanon is pushing for international oversight, while Israel supports a joint security mechanism.

The political track centers on drafting a joint declaration outlining respect for sovereignty, borders, and the framework for future relations after the conflict.

The discussions come amid shifting regional dynamics following recent US-Iran negotiations and ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border. Despite diplomatic efforts, reports indicate that military activity has continued in southern Lebanon, highlighting the fragility of the current ceasefire.

Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir recently described the truce as "fragile" and warned that hostilities could resume if conditions deteriorate.
