In collaboration with the Somali government, U.S. Africa Command conducted an attack on al-Shabaab terrorists on Sunday, according to the Pentagon.
Two terrorists were killed while they were targeting SNA troops close to Buulobarde, which is a city located around 135 miles north of Mogadishu.
An initial analysis by U.S. Africa Command found that no civilian casualties had been reported.
A similar airstrike by the American military in Somalia, which killed Abdullahi Nadir, a prominent figure in the "most kinetically active al-Qaeda network in the world," took place around three weeks prior to the present airstrike.
According to a statement from the Pentagon, "U.S. Africa Command, together with its allies, continues to take action to prevent this nefarious terrorist cell from planning and carrying out attacks on civilians."
The State Department also imposed sanctions earlier this month on five al-Shabaab leaders who are thought to be behind terrorist acts in Somalia and neighbouring African nations.
Following the ex-president Trump's withdrawal of these Special Operations forces in December 2020, President Biden redeployed several hundred of them to Somalia in May.
