The U.S. military said on Thursday that American forces had disabled a vessel in the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly attempted to violate a naval blockade.
The U.S. military said it had intercepted an empty oil tanker flying the Iranian flag that was attempting to sail toward an Iranian port.
The incident comes amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran over maritime security and military activity in the Gulf region. The Gulf of Oman, which connects the Arabian Sea to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is a vital route for global oil shipments and has witnessed repeated confrontations involving commercial vessels and naval forces in recent years.
Washington has repeatedly accused Tehran of threatening freedom of navigation in regional waters, while Iran has criticized the U.S. military presence near its coastline and described it as a source of instability.
