The United States has approved the sale of advanced combat rescue helicopters and related equipment to Norway in a deal worth $2.6 billion, further reinforcing the NATO member’s defense capabilities amid heightened regional security concerns.

According to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the sale will significantly enhance Norway’s ability to address current and future threats, particularly in the domains of aerial combat and special operations.

The purchase is also expected to strengthen Norway’s capacity to support other NATO allies and contribute to collective defense efforts.

The deal includes a comprehensive package of helicopters, combat equipment, spare parts, training programs, and logistical support systems, all aimed at integrating seamlessly into the Norwegian Armed Forces.

The DSCA emphasized that Norway will have no difficulty incorporating the new assets into its military structure.

The US State Department has given formal approval for the transaction, while the DSCA has submitted the necessary notification to Congress. The sale will proceed upon final legislative endorsement.

This major defense acquisition aligns with NATO’s broader strategy to reinforce the alliance's northern flank and bolster operational readiness, especially in light of Russia's growing military assertiveness near Norwegian borders.
