U.S. Middle East envoy Tom Barrack is visiting Israel for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid heightened political and judicial sensitivity, as questions grow over Washington’s stance on Israeli actions in Syrian territory.

The anticipated meeting comes at a critical moment for Netanyahu, who had earlier requested a postponement of a court session in his ongoing bribery trial, citing his involvement in diplomatic meetings. Israel’s Central District Court partially approved the request, reducing the duration of the hearing.

Following the court session, Netanyahu held a series of diplomatic meetings, including an initial encounter with the Speaker of Paraguay’s Parliament within the court premises, before proceeding to meet the U.S. envoy.

Israeli media have portrayed Barrack’s visit as an attempt at a “personal reconciliation” between the two sides after previous political statements attributed to the envoy reportedly angered Israeli officials. Those remarks were viewed in Tel Aviv as biased against Israel, prompting the Israeli government to lodge formal complaints with the U.S. administration.

The visit has fueled speculation over whether discussions will address American “red lines” regarding Israeli military incursions into Syrian territory, and whether any understandings have already been reached behind closed doors. The talks are seen as part of broader efforts to recalibrate U.S.-Israeli coordination on regional security issues, particularly amid ongoing tensions in Syria.
