U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, stated that Washington and Damascus are set to move beyond sanctions and work toward investment, development, and the global promotion of a “new and welcoming Syria.”
This came during Barrack’s meeting with Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, following the Trump administration’s directive to initiate the easing of sanctions on Damascus.
In a statement cited by CNN, Barrack said, “This meeting was held under the direction of President Trump to pave the way for peace and prosperity in Syria.”
It is worth mentioning that, U.S. Department of Treasury announced yesterday that it had taken initial steps to ease the current sanctions imposed on Syria.
