The US Embassy in London has issued a security alert urging American citizens in the United Kingdom to exercise heightened caution in public spaces following an increase in the national terrorism threat level.
In a statement released Friday, the embassy said the UK government had raised the threat level to severe, indicating that a terrorist attack is highly likely in the coming months.
The decision follows a recent incident in Golders Green, where two individuals were stabbed earlier this week, prompting concerns over escalating security risks.
According to the advisory, the rise in the threat level is linked to growing risks from both Islamist and far-right extremism within the UK.
The embassy advised US citizens to remain vigilant in public areas, including schools, hospitals, places of worship, tourist sites, and transport hubs. It also recommended avoiding drawing attention, varying travel routes and schedules, and staying informed about local developments.
The warning comes after British authorities elevated the national threat level from substantial to severe, the second-highest category in the country’s five-tier system, signaling a strong likelihood of an attack within the next six months.
