US Embassy Cairo marked the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence at a party hosted by Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman at the American University in Cairo’s (AUC) Tahrir Square campus on June 4, 2026.

The evening brought together Egyptian government ministers, governors, senior officials and diplomats along with business leaders, religious figures, artists and other friends of the United States to celebrate two-and-a-half centuries of American innovation and democracy while honoring the longstanding partnership between the United States and Egypt.

Embassy Cairo’s ongoing Freedom 250 celebrations include a series of events throughout 2026 that celebrate the people, achievements, and partnerships that define the American story and America’s engagement with Egypt.

In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Robert Silverman recognized the achievements of distinguished Americans of Egyptian heritage who were present. They included:

• Zaky Abdelfattah, Athlete and Coach

• Ramy Adeeb, Founder, 1984 Ventures

• Shereen Ahmed, Singer and Actress

• Mohamed Amen, Detective First Grade, New York City Police Department

• Maurice Nessim, Founder and CEO, GCCG Nessim Foundation

• Naguib Sawiris, Chairman, Orascom Investment Holding

• George Selim, Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy Reserve

Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed live music, American cuisine, fair games, and AI-enabled photo booths that placed guests in iconic scenes of American history, all celebrating the spirit of 1776.
