In a significant diplomatic exchange, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry engaged in a detailed phone conversation with his American counterpart, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, on Sunday, 26th November. The primary focus of their discussion was the evolving situation in the Gaza Strip and the efforts surrounding the implementation of the recently brokered temporary humanitarian truce.

As detailed by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the call revolved around strategies to manage the crisis in Gaza. Both ministers emphasized the critical need to facilitate humanitarian and relief aid access during the ceasefire and addressed the challenges that could potentially hinder the truce's effectiveness. Shoukry stressed the urgency of extending the truce into a comprehensive ceasefire, ensuring consistent and far-reaching humanitarian support throughout Gaza.

The dialogue extended to cover the enforcement of the U.N. Security Council's resolution passed on 15th November, focusing on establishing ceasefire conditions and humanitarian corridors in Gaza. This resolution aims to alleviate the dire humanitarian conditions in the area. Minister Shoukry also informed Blinken about the Arab/Islamic ministerial committee's efforts, underscoring the influential role of the U.N. Security Council's permanent members in halting the ongoing conflict and addressing the severe violations of international law by Israel, particularly the targeted attacks on civilians.

Secretary Blinken lauded Egypt's pivotal role in mediating the crisis and its instrumental cooperation in securing the truce. This collaboration has led to an increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza and the recent release of a second batch of prisoners and detainees.

Furthermore, the ministers reviewed a resolution proposed at the U.N. Security Council by Arab and Islamic nations, aimed at rectifying the challenges in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. They agreed on the vital responsibility of the global community to ensure adequate and sustained aid to relieve the suffering of Gaza's populace.

Concluding the call, both ministers reiterated their commitment to ongoing consultations and close coordination in addressing the crisis. They pledged to jointly strive for regional stability through a lasting political resolution to the Palestinian issue, anchored in the two-state solution framework and international laws, ultimately leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
