The US has increased its funding for Ebola response efforts by nearly $38 million, bringing total direct support to more than $200 million, the State Department announced on Friday.
The additional funding comes as Washington works closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda to strengthen efforts aimed at containing the outbreak.
According to the World Health Organization, the current Ebola outbreak in DR Congo has resulted in 344 confirmed cases and 60 deaths.
US officials did not specify how the new funding will be allocated but said it will support a rapid and comprehensive response to the outbreak.
The State Department also confirmed that US citizens exposed to the virus but not showing symptoms will be placed in quarantine at a facility under construction in Kenya.
