On Monday, five malaria cases were detected in Florida and Texas, which are the first cases of the disease in the first 20 years, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced.

The five cases were diagnosed over a period of two months, the CDC said.

The state of Florida revealed that the first case of malaria was diagnosed, yesterday, in Sarasota County, while Texas authorities said that another malaria case was reported on June 23 for a person who worked in Cameron County.

The CDC said warned that malaria is a medical emergency and that anyone who feels any symptoms should be "urgently evaluated."

However, the CDC said that the risk of the disease is still low in the US, and the latest detected cases are linked to overseas trips or activities.

Fully 95% of malaria infections are acquired in Africa, the health agency said.

The Symptoms of the disease are fever, chills, headache, muscle pain, and fatigue. Some cases may experience Nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
