The United States strongly condemned, on Sunday, the terrorist attack in Sinai that targeted members of the Egyptian military.
“For decades, the United States has been and remains Egypt’s strong partner in confronting terrorism in the region. We wish to express our profound condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in this heinous attack," the statement read.
Egyptian Army foiled an attack launched by a group of takfiri terrorists against the East Canal Water Lifting Station checkpoint on Saturday, according to the Armed Forces spokesperson.
An officer and 10 soldiers were killed in the attack in addition to five others injured.
On his part, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi commented on the heinous attack: “The loyal sons of the nation are still responding to the call of their country with all courage and sacrifice. They continue in unique self-denial and unshakable faith in the doctrine of homeland preservation.”
Moreover, Sisi affirmed that these treacherous terrorist operations will not undermine the determination of the people of this country and its armed forces to completely uproot the roots of terrorism.
