A U.S. delegation has left Islamabad following nearly 21 hours of intensive negotiations with Iranian officials, after Tehran rejected key conditions put forward by Washington.
The talks, described as marathon negotiations, included both direct and indirect sessions between the two sides.
The delegation’s departure came less than an hour after U.S. Vice President JD Vance presented what he described as Washington’s “best offer.” Iran’s refusal of the proposal prompted Vance to return swiftly to the United States to brief President Donald Trump on the outcome of the discussions.
The negotiations reportedly stalled over several sensitive issues, most notably control of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s uranium enrichment program.
U.S. officials viewed Tehran’s failure to provide assurances that it would not pursue nuclear weapons as a key factor behind the breakdown of the talks.
