The U.S. Embassy in Cairo said in a statement on Monday that U.S. Ambassador Herro Mustafa Garg visited Damietta Port as part of the second day of the U.S. Ports Roadshow, underscoring Washington’s interest in supporting Egypt’s maritime infrastructure development.
The embassy said the Ambassador was accompanied by representatives from leading American companies, including Bechtel, Cisco, Hill International, TMEIC, OSI/Rapiscan, Aveva, and Alvarez & Marsal Holdings. They were received by Deputy Transportation Minister Rear Admiral Nihad Shaheen, Damietta Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Tarek Adly Abdullah, Maritime Transport Sector President Rear Admiral Tarek Abdullah, Container Company Managing Director Rear Admiral Rafik Galal, and other senior officials.
During her visit to the governorate, Mustafa Garg also met with Damietta Governor Dr. Ayman El-Shehabi.
On September 14, the Ambassador and the U.S. business delegation joined Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transportation Kamel El-Wazir to launch the Ports Roadshow at the Port of Alexandria. The program will continue with stops in Port Said, Ain Sokhna, and Cairo later this week.
“Our goal is simple: to advance mutual prosperity,” the embassy quoted Ambassador Mustafa Garg as saying at Damietta Port. “Modern, efficient ports drive economic growth, create jobs, and connect industries to global markets. U.S. companies are eager to partner with Damietta to help it grow into a global logistics powerhouse, driving economic benefits locally and across the region,” the statement read.
The embassy also noted that U.S. support for Egypt’s port development would expand opportunities for American businesses abroad while creating high-quality jobs in the United States. “Together, we are building a foundation for shared prosperity, innovation, and security that will endure for generations to come,” it added.
