U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin held a phone conversation with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to discuss recent developments on the battlefield and U.S. security assistance to Ukraine.
In a statement, the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) reported that Secretary Austin briefed his Ukrainian counterpart on the security assistance being provided to ensure Ukraine has the necessary capabilities in its war against Russia.
The two officials also discussed preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and the continued strong support from Ukraine's international partners. Both agreed to maintain close communication, according to the Pentagon statement.
