US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin started to recover from the complications of medical procedures he previously had. He was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday, the Pentagon said a few hours ago.
The Pentagon announced the news of Austin's hospitalization four days later. The Pentagon Spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder didn't say any information or details regarding the medical case of the US Defense Secretary in his press brief on Thursday.
The latest released statement of the Pentagon said that Austin is “recovering well.” Ryder told CNN that Austin stayed in the hospital as of Friday afternoon, but he is expected to resume his full duties later Friday.
Regarding delaying the announcement about Austin's health, Ryder said: “This has been an evolving situation in which we had to consider a number of other factors” like medical and privacy issues.
