US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin described the agreement between Lebanon and Israel as "historic," stating that it will contribute to fostering peace in the region.
In remarks broadcast by the US-based Alhurra channel, Austin noted that tens of thousands of civilians in Lebanon and Israel will now be able to return to their homes.
The US Defense Secretary also expressed hope that the ceasefire in Lebanon would bring an end to the violence and destruction caused by the conflict.
