A US federal court has struck down a $100,000 fee imposed by President Donald Trump's administration on H-1B visa applications, ruling that the measure exceeded executive authority.

The H-1B visa program allows US companies to hire highly skilled foreign workers, including software engineers and other technology professionals, for multi-year employment.

The Trump administration introduced the fee in September 2025, raising the cost from several thousand dollars to $100,000 per application.

A federal court in Massachusetts ruled on Tuesday that the administration had encroached on powers reserved for Congress. However, the decision is not binding nationwide, and media reports indicate the Trump administration plans to appeal the ruling.

The case marks the latest legal challenge to US immigration policies affecting skilled foreign workers and employers.
