The United States (US) commented on Sunday the Iranian attack on Iraq’s northern Kurdish regional capital of Erbil.

"The United States condemns the criminal attack on civilian targets in Erbil," US ambassador to Iraq Matthew H. Tueller posted on 'Facebook'.

"Iranian regime elements have claimed responsibility for this attack and must be held accountable for this flagrant violation of Iraqi sovereignty and terrorist attacks on innocent civilian properties," he added.

Moreover, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned on Sunday the terrorist attack that targeted the Iraqi city of Erbil with a number of missiles near populated areas, causing material damages.

An official source in the General Secretariat of the AL stressed the entity's full support for the Iraqi efforts in confronting such criminal acts that target Iraq's stability and security.

The AL also called for the speedy disclosure of the truth about who is behind these malicious terrorist acts, which aim to destabilize civil peace at this delicate time, when Iraq is seeking to form its new government.
