The United States has closed its embassy in Bahrain “until further notice” amid escalating regional tensions, the diplomatic mission announced Monday.
In a statement, the embassy said the decision was taken due to the deteriorating security situation in the region. It added that a separate announcement would be made once normal operations resume.
The move underscores growing concerns about instability following recent military escalation in the Middle East. The embassy also shared emergency contact numbers for its consular section and the State Department, along with safety guidance for US citizens on how to respond in the event of shelling or armed attacks.
The closure comes days after the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran, reportedly killing Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with dozens of senior officials. Tehran has since threatened retaliatory strikes against US bases across the region.
Bahrain hosts the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, making it a key strategic location amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran. The embassy shutdown highlights fears of potential Iranian retaliation targeting American assets in the Gulf.
Regional security remains on high alert as diplomatic missions and military installations brace for possible further escalation.
