U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry is scheduled to travel to Cairo on Sunday in a two-day visit, the State Department announced on Friday.
On Monday, "Kerry will deliver an address at American University in Cairo on the future of international climate action in the leadup to COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh," the statement read.
In accordance with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, "Kerry will launch the inaugural meeting of the U.S.-Egypt Climate Working Group, a joint endeavor to advance bilateral and multilateral climate goals ahead of COP27," the statement added.
During his visit, the secretary will also meet with government counterparts and business representatives to urge continued and increased climate ambition.
Egypt is all set to host the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UNFCCC.
Shoukry has previously pointed out that Egypt will adopt a comprehensive approach, taking into account the concerns and priorities of the various parties. The state will also support all African countries for their efforts that contribute to the success of its hosting of the conference.
