The US has cancelled plans to deploy more than 4,000 troops to Poland, according to a report published by Defense News.

A US Army official told the publication that the deployment of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team from the 1st Cavalry Division, along with its military equipment, had been called off.

The move comes as Polish military officials continue discussions with senior NATO and US commanders over expanding the American military presence in Poland.

According to the Polish General Staff, Chief of the General Staff Wiesław Kukuła recently met NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe and head of US European Command Alexus Grynkewich to discuss regional security and NATO’s evolving defense structure.

The talks also included discussions about increasing the number of US troops stationed in Poland to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank.

Around 10,000 US soldiers are currently deployed in Poland as part of NATO deterrence operations in Eastern Europe.

The development follows comments by US President Donald Trump, who recently suggested that some US forces stationed in Germany could be relocated to Poland amid tensions with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Earlier this month, Trump announced plans to reduce the number of US troops in Germany by more than 5,000 following criticism from Merz regarding the US military campaign against Iran.
