New US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on Russia to release all those detained, including opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Al Arabiya reported on Sunday.

Earlier, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that US President Joe Biden asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to release Navalny, in a phone call this week.

“US President Joe Biden will keep all options on the table while considering a response to Russia’s detention of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Psaki said last Monday.

Noteworthy, the US State Department strongly condemned what it called “the strong suppression of protests” in several Russian regions, as supporters of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny took to streets demanding his release. The US urged Moscow to release all detainees.

“The United States strongly condemns the strong suppression of protests in support of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny, throughout Russia ” the State Department said in a statement last week.
