On Friday morning, the United States called for a ceasefire in Sudan no later than April 23.

According to the US State Department, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken this morning held talks with the commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and the commander of the country's Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, calling on the parties to a nationwide ceasefire by the 23rd April.

Sudan is witnessing large-scale clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces in separate areas, most of which are concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, and the Northern State.

Each of the two parties is trying to control vital headquarters, most notably the Republican Palace in Khartoum, the headquarters of the General Command of the Armed Forces and the Command of the Rapid Support Forces, and a number of military and civilian airports, most notably Merowe Airport.

Despite the declaration of a 24-hour truce since yesterday evening, Wednesday, there are sporadic clashes between the two sides, despite international and regional calls for a cease-fire and resort to dialogue to end the crisis in Sudan, led by the head of the Sovereignty Council, Al-Burhan, who commands the army, and Dagalo (Hemedti), who commands the Rapid Support Forces.
