The United States has reinstated several major Chinese companies on a Pentagon list of entities alleged to support China's military, including e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, search engine operator Baidu, and electric vehicle manufacturer BYD.
The updated list, released on Monday, also includes biotechnology firm WuXi AppTec and AI-powered robotics company RoboSense.
While inclusion on the list does not trigger immediate sanctions, the Pentagon increasingly uses it to restrict companies' access to military contracts and research funding. New US legislation is also expected to prohibit the Department of Defense from purchasing goods or services from listed firms in the coming years.
The move could further heighten tensions between Washington and Beijing, as companies named on the list have repeatedly denied supporting the Chinese military.
First introduced in 2021, the Pentagon's blacklist now includes more than 100 companies across sectors such as aviation, technology, construction, shipping, and telecommunications, reflecting broader US efforts to curb China's military and technological influence.
