Intensive diplomatic efforts are currently taking place as Lebanon coordinates closely with the United States to secure a comprehensive and absolute ceasefire agreement with Israel.
According to regional reports from Sky News Arabia, high-level communications are being fast-tracked in an effort to finalize a sustainable framework to end the border hostilities. Sources familiar with the ongoing talks suggest that a blanket cessation of military operations could potentially be announced as early as midnight on Sunday, local time.
However, the same diplomatic sources cautioned that Israel has not yet granted its formal approval to the proposed terms of the agreement.
Intense Military Activity Precedes Potential Truce
The diplomatic push comes against a backdrop of severe military escalation over the weekend. The Israel Defense Forces announced that their aircraft targeted approximately 100 strategic sites in various sectors across southern Lebanon over the last 48 hours.
Field correspondents in Beirut reported a wave of successive Israeli airstrikes hitting multiple border towns. Local authorities confirmed that the latest bombardments resulted in at least five fatalities and left more than ten others wounded.
Prior to unleashing the latest round of bombardments, the Israeli military issued immediate evacuation orders to civilians living in nine specific southern Lebanese towns. The targeted areas are predominantly clustered within the Sidon district, forcing hundreds of local families to rapidly flee their homes in anticipation of heavy shelling.
Diplomats remain hopeful that the ongoing Washington-led mediation will bridge the remaining gaps between the two sides before the midnight deadline, providing a vital window to prevent further civilian casualties and restore long-term regional stability.
