US automakers, including Ford Motor Company and General Motors, could soon begin manufacturing military systems such as Patriot interceptor missiles and Tomahawk cruise missiles, according to President Donald Trump.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said several automotive manufacturers are discussing plans to convert excess production capacity into defense manufacturing as part of efforts to replenish US military stockpiles.
The president stated that some facilities could be repurposed to produce advanced weapons systems, including components for the Patriot Missile System and Tomahawk Cruise Missile programs.
Trump said the initiative is aimed at strengthening US defense readiness and ensuring sufficient supplies of critical military equipment, particularly air defense interceptors.
The proposal reflects a broader push to expand domestic defense production amid rising global security demands and increased military procurement requirements.
