The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) has approved more than $2 billion in export credit insurance to support U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to Egypt, in a move aimed at strengthening energy cooperation and boosting energy security for both countries.

The financing will facilitate LNG shipments under agreements between Hartree Partners and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), helping Egypt meet rising domestic energy demand while supporting U.S. jobs and supply chains.

EXIM Chairman John Jovanovic said the approval enables U.S. energy exports to play a greater role in key global markets, while reinforcing strategic economic ties. He added that the deal supports American exporters and strengthens supply chain resilience.

U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Cairo Robert Silverman said the partnership highlights the mutual benefits of U.S.-Egypt cooperation in the energy sector, noting that it will provide Egypt with reliable and affordable energy while supporting employment and industrial growth in the United States.

The agreement reflects broader efforts to expand bilateral cooperation in energy and aligns with U.S. priorities to increase global exports of American energy resources.

EXIM, as the official export credit agency of the United States, supports American businesses through financing tools such as export credit insurance, loan guarantees and direct lending, helping companies compete internationally and strengthen global supply chains.
