US Announces New Sanctions Targeting Iran’s Oil Network

The United States has issued a new wave of sanctions against a network of front companies, shipping intermediaries, and individuals accused of financing Iran’s armed forces through illicit oil sales.

The measures were announced by the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.

US officials said the designations aim to disrupt revenue that supports Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its regional proxies.

The State Department listed 17 entities, individuals, and vessels involved in the trade of Iranian oil, while the Treasury added a further 41 designations covering companies, individuals, ships, and an aircraft.

The move follows last month’s UN Security Council vote rejecting a proposal to lift sanctions on Iran permanently.

Tensions escalated after Israel launched a major air campaign on Iran in June, prompting a 12-day conflict in which the United States briefly took part. Three Iranian nuclear sites were struck, leading Tehran to halt cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and restrict inspector access.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran will not allow IAEA inspections of bombed facilities until a concrete agreement is reached. Tehran accuses the agency of bias for failing to condemn the Israeli strikes.
