The United States has unveiled a significant package of additional aid for Ukraine, totaling nearly $6 billion in military and budgetary support.
This move comes as President Joe Biden seeks to maximize assistance to Ukraine during the final weeks of his administration before the transition to President-elect Donald Trump.
The newly announced $2.5 billion security assistance package, as reported by Reuters, is part of Biden’s efforts to strengthen Ukraine's position amidst escalating Russian aggression.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also announced an additional $3.4 billion in budgetary support for Ukraine. This financial aid provides crucial resources as Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure.
Biden stated that his administration will continue to reinforce Ukraine’s capabilities, ensuring it remains resilient during his remaining time in office.
$1.25 Billion from US Reserves: This portion includes equipment immediately available for use on the battlefield.
$1.22 Billion Through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI): Unlike reserve aid, USAI funds procure military equipment from defense contractors or partner nations, which may take months or even years to deliver.
This package includes critical supplies such as air defense systems, artillery, and other essential weaponry for immediate and long-term battlefield success.
