U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg and the Department of State’s Acting Assistant Secretary for Business Affairs Amy Holman co-hosted a call with dozens of American businesses featuring Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade to promote bilateral U.S./Egypt trade and investment in the health and medical technology sector. This ‘Direct Line’ call is the first in a series of calls that the ambassador will conduct with senior Egyptian officials to help highlight the significant business opportunities for American companies in Egypt by focusing on priority sectors that will boost the bilateral economic relationship. More than 60 American businesspeople joined today’s call, representing healthcare and medical companies located in 27 American states and territories. These companies offer innovative and affordable healthcare solutions and services of the highest quality.
“Today’s Direct Line call will increase U.S.-Egyptian cooperation in the vital sector of healthcare and medical technology,” said U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg. “This is just the latest example of joint U.S.-Egyptian efforts to strengthen our commercial and economic ties and follows the second session of the U.S.-Egypt Joint Economic Commission, the U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue, and the U.S.-Egypt Trade and Investment Framework Agreement talks which took place this fall. Each of these events reinforces the United States and Egypt’s enduring strategic partnership and mutual commitment to building strong, prosperous economies in the United States and Egypt, creating jobs and business opportunities for future generations of Egyptians and Americans.”
Total bilateral trade in goods between the United States and Egypt was $6.9 billion in 2023, and Egypt remains the largest destination of U.S. foreign direct investment in Africa with $13.7 billion invested in 2023. There are over one thousand U.S.-affiliated companies operating in Egypt today. The U.S. government is also promoting the United States market as an investment destination for Egyptian companies through the SelectUSA program. The economic partnership between Egypt and the United States continues to grow stronger and provide prosperity and economic security for both Egyptians and Americans. Egypt and the United States are stronger together.
