US Ambassador: ‘ACC Creates Vital Link between Egyptian & American Peoples

On Tuesday, the US Embassy in Cairo celebrated with the 70th anniversary of the American Center in Cairo (ACC) . US Ambassador to Cairo Herro Mustafa Garg, Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, and Governor of Luxor Abdel Muttalib Emara, as we as several officials.

During the event, the US Ambassador officially kicked-off American250, the year-long celebration of 250 years of the United States’ independence.

In her speech, Garg described the ACC as the beating heart of the US Embassy in Cairo, adding: “More than 70 years since the establishment of the American Center in Cairo. This center has been a vital link between the Egyptian people and the American people.”

She also praised the ACC as it is an example for the close relationships between Egypt and the US.

After that, the US Ambassador explained the role of the US corner and spaces around the world, highlighting: “The American Spaces Program has been an integral part of what the US State Department has been doing since the mid-20th century. 

One overarching purpose of this space is to bring a little piece of America to the world. 

Today, along with more than 600 American educational and cultural hubs worldwide, this center offers a welcoming environment where each person is empowered to take charge of their own learning and gain access to the tools they need to support their economic advancement and the central platform for getting to know America up close through language, culture, the arts, creativity, entrepreneurship, and technology.”

During her speech, the US Ambassador announced the establishment of the first US corner in Upper Egypt, in Luxor. 

“As we turn the page onto a new chapter of American Spaces Network in Egypt, we are in the final stages of renovating a beautiful space in Misr Public Library, Luxor,” she revealed.

The opening of Luxor’s American Corner is set for December 6.

On his side, Sobhy expressed his pleasure to participate in the event, praising the role of the US Ambassador to enhance the bilateral ties between Egypt and the US on all levels.
