Uruguay Records Mucormycosis Case for Man Recovered from COVID-19

Uruguay recorded a Mucormycosis case for a patient who recently recovered from COVID-19, El País reported on Sunday.

Aged 50 years old, the man who infected with Mucormycosis suffers from diabetes as people who have diabetes and infected with COVID-19 become more weaker.

Mucormycosis or Black Fungus caused a mood of fear to the whole world after its outbreak in India and Brazil.

“This fungus exists naturally in nature. The infection is really rare, but it can cause a very serious ringworm, it can affect the nose, skin, stomach and organs ”, doctor Marcelo Simão, of the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases (SBI) told media agencies.

“It also appears a lot in those who are undergoing treatment for leukemia, diabetics, transplant recipients ... In general, in people with weaker immune systems. Drugs to fight Covid-19, hospitalization, all of this favors the appearance of the fungus ”.

The newspaper added that Uruguay detected a few cases of Black Fungus, but this is the first case that linked to COVID-19.
