Renowned American actor and director Kevin Costner, a two-time Academy Award winner, is set to visit Cairo soon at the invitation of Parliament Deputy Speaker Mohamed Abou El-Enein.
The invitation was extended to Costner during the "Better World" Foundation's gala held on the sidelines of the Venice Film Festival in Italy. At the event, Abou El-Enein was honored with the "Humanitarian Work" award for his extensive humanitarian endeavors, while Costner received the award for "Best Artistic Work," and global star Susan Sarandon was recognized for her "Lifetime Achievement."
During his speech, Abou El-Enein expressed his gratitude for being part of such a remarkable event that celebrated human values and solidarity. He emphasized that receiving this award was a great honor and that humanitarian work was not merely a duty but a sincere call to connect with one another, alleviate suffering, and transform lives.
"My experience has taught me that humanity is greater than words; it is actions, it's the moments we stand together and support each other," he said, adding that this award was a tribute to everyone who believed in making a difference.
"We promise to continue working for humanity and to do our utmost to promote the noble values that unite us all. Thank you all for your support and encouragement," he concluded.
Abou El-Enein further highlighted Egypt's allure, emphasizing its magnificent historical sites such as the pyramids, the temples of Luxor, the tombs of ancient Egyptian pharaohs and queens, and the soon-to-be-opened Grand Egyptian Museum. He also mentioned Egypt's stunning beaches and coral reefs, which attract divers from around the world.
It is worth mentioning that, Kevin Costner was among the latest stars to join the Venice Film Festival's 81st edition with his film "Horizon." The film, a sequel to its predecessor of the same name, was added to the festival's lineup at the last minute and was screened before the closing ceremony.
The Venice Film Festival, the oldest film festival in the world, was founded by Giuseppe Volpi in 1932.
It takes place annually in late August or early September on the Lido island in Venice, Italy.
Considered one of the most prestigious film festivals globally, it is part of the Venice Biennale, a major art exhibition and contemporary art festival. The festival's main prize is the Golden Lion, awarded to the best film in the official competition. Additionally, the Volpi Cup is presented to the best actor and actress.
