Military and police teams from eastern and western Libya met in Egypt's Hurghada and began security and military talks, in the framework of the ongoing (5+5) Joint Military Commission talks, with the facilitation of UNSMIL.
UNSMIL extended its deep gratitude to the Egyptian government for making these important talks possible and for its generous hosting of the delegations, the UN mission said in a statement on Monday.
"We also extend our thanks to the two delegations who have demonstrated a positive and proactive attitude aimed at de-escalation of the situation in central Libya," the statement read.

UNSMIL expected that the outcome of these face-to-face meetings would be mainstreamed into the 5+5 Joint Military Commission.
The meeting will discuss the establishment of two military committees from the east and west of Libya, to form a force responsible for securing the headquarters of the new government in Sirte, as well as setting up an expanded military committee to discuss the declaration of a unified military force in Libya.
Moreover, they will tackle developing plans to remove mercenaries and armed militias, in addition to securing oil sites.
