On Sunday, head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL),Stephanie Williams, stressed the need to stop the flow of foreign mercenaries into Libya, expressing her optimism about the decline in violations of the arms embargo in the country.

Williams, in an interview with Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, welcomed the direct security and military talks between the delegations of the Libyan National Army (LNA) and the Government of National Accord (GNA).

She considered the talks, which were hosted by the city of Hurghada in Egypt, a positive development within the military security track.

Moreover, she said that most of the Libyan parties are now more than ever convinced that the solution in Libya must be political and that all other means have not found any use.

She indicated that violations of the arms embargo in Libya continue, but at a lighter pace in recent times.

The UN Acting Representative in Libya called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities, help confirm respect for Libyan sovereignty, and stop interfering in the internal affairs of Libya.

This comes as sources reported that preparations are underway for a high-level meeting hosted by Egypt that includes various Libyan parties during the coming days.
