On Thursday, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) announced that over 3,000 People will be vaccinated against polio in Gaza soon.
Sam Rose, the Field Director for UNRWA in Gaza, highlighted the dire conditions that have led to the resurgence of polio, emphasizing the urgent need for this vaccination campaign.
The campaign will include over 1,000 UNRWA staff members among the recipients, according to Rose.
In addition to the UNRWA's efforts, Palestinian Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan recently confirmed that 1.2 million doses of the polio vaccine have arrived in Gaza.
These vaccines are being stored under the required cold chain conditions in UNICEF's warehouses within the region.
The ministry is also working to secure an additional 400,000 doses to ensure that over 95% of children, ranging from newborns to 10-year-olds, are vaccinated.
