The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, stated today, Sunday, that Gaza has become the most dangerous place in the world for journalists and humanitarian workers, noting that more than 230 journalists have been killed in the Strip.
In a statement reported by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), Lazzarini added that preventing journalists from entering Gaza reinforces disinformation campaigns and extremist narratives. He emphasized that Palestinian journalists serve as the eyes and ears in covering the atrocities of the war on Gaza, conveying a powerful human picture of its effects, and working with bravery and courage despite all the difficulties.
Lazzarini pointed out that journalists worked alongside humanitarian workers, stressing that preventing journalists from entering Gaza aims to discredit firsthand accounts and the testimonies of international humanitarian organizations, as well as to dehumanize Palestinians.
