Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, said there is great concern in Gaza about a military attack in Rafah, indicating that there are fears that the evacuation of residents in Rafah will begin if an agreement is not reached this week.
Lazzarini said in media statements during a United Nations press conference in Geneva that there are difficulties facing aid convoys in Gaza, and we demand the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages and are concerned about the Gazans detained by Israel.
He added: There are more food supplies available in Gaza during the month of April, but they are still insufficient. 182 UNRWA employees have been killed since the start of the war in Gaza.
He said that most donor countries have resumed their funding for the agency, and there are still a small number of countries that have not yet decided to do so.
Philippe Lazzarini called for an independent investigation into the killing of agency employees in Gaza and the way it was dealt with after reaching a ceasefire.
$115 million in private money has been raised for the agency.
He continued, saying: We are able to withstand until June after announcing new contributions to UNRWA, and we look forward to continuing our operations until next August.
He said: I will go to the Gaza Strip next Sunday and I hope that Israel will allow me to enter.
