The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, reiterated the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

“There has been no safe place or person in Gaza since the war began in October 2023,” Lazzarini stressed, according to the official UN website. He highlighted reports of a new attack on Al-Mawasi, near the northern border, which killed and injured dozens, calling it "a stark reminder that there is no humanitarian zone or ‘safe area’ in Gaza."

Lazzarini warned, “Every day without a ceasefire only adds more tragedy.”

The UNRWA also criticized the ongoing Israeli restrictions on international media, stating that journalists must be granted the right to freely access and report from Gaza.

Separately, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed concern over "a troubling trend of suppressing freedom of opinion and expression in the occupied Palestinian territories." The office urged the Palestinian Authority to "reconsider its stance and adhere to its international legal obligations."

Independent UN-appointed experts also condemned the attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital last week and the arbitrary detention of its director, calling it a blatant violation of the right to health in Gaza.
