The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has emphasized that the protection of civilians in the Gaza Strip remains an urgent humanitarian priority amid deteriorating conditions.
The Agency stressed the critical need to ensure safe and sustainable access for humanitarian aid to reach the population.
In a statement published on its official website and reported by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), UNRWA explained that empowering humanitarian workers and protecting humanitarian facilities and installations are essential prerequisites for the continued delivery of vital services. These services include primary healthcare, education, emergency relief, and food support for the most vulnerable families.
The Agency noted that it continues its operations in the Gaza Strip despite immense challenges, driven by its UN mandate to ensure that support reaches hundreds of thousands of refugees who rely fundamentally on its services.
UNRWA further called for the provision of a secure environment that allows humanitarian teams to perform their duties without obstacles.
This is necessary to guarantee the protection of civilians and ensure the continuous flow of life-saving humanitarian aid to all those in need throughout the Gaza Strip
