Armed groups killed more than 160 people in attacks launched on Saturday and Monday evening in several towns in Plateau State, central Nigeria, local authorities announced.

At least 113 people were killed in attacks launched by armed groups, on Saturday and Sunday, in several towns in Plateau State, central Nigeria, according to what the local government announced.

Manday Kassa, Chairman of Bukos Local Government Council in Plateau State, which has been suffering from religious and ethnic tensions for years, said that the clashes that started on Saturday continued on Monday morning.

Kassa added in a statement to Agence France-Presse (AFP): “At least 113 bodies were found.” A previous toll announced by the army indicated that 16 people were killed.

He also confirmed that more than 300 people were injured and taken to hospitals in Bokos, Jos, and Barkin Ladi.

For its part, Amnesty International said on the “X” platform, “The Nigerian authorities have always failed in their attempts to put an end to these repeated attacks in Plateau State.”
