The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has warned that recent Israeli military escalations in southern Lebanon, particularly overnight attacks, pose a serious threat to the fragile stability in the region since the November 2024 truce.
UNIFIL spokesperson Danny Al-Ghafri told Egypt’s AlQahera News that the peacekeeping mission is urging an immediate halt to hostilities to safeguard security and peace.
“UNIFIL hopes both parties, Lebanon and Israel, will abide by the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the understandings reached in November 2024 to cease hostilities,” Al-Ghafri said. He added that peacekeepers continue to work daily with the Lebanese army to redeploy forces and reinforce stability along the Blue Line and in UNIFIL’s area of operations.
Asked about possible reactions from Hezbollah to Israel’s actions, Al-Ghafri stressed the need for restraint from all sides, warning that any further escalation risks undermining the progress made since the cessation of hostilities.
