The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has condemned recent Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, describing them as “clear violations” of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
In a statement, UNIFIL warned that the attacks not only breach the terms of the 2006 ceasefire agreement that ended the Lebanon-Israel war but also endanger the safety of civilians in the affected areas.
“The Israeli air raids on southern Lebanon pose serious risks to civilian lives and undermine efforts to achieve a political solution,” the peacekeeping mission said.
UN Resolution 1701, adopted in August 2006, calls for a full cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and the deployment of UNIFIL troops to monitor the ceasefire.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border have escalated in recent weeks amid ongoing regional instability. UNIFIL reiterated its call for all parties to exercise restraint and adhere to their international obligations to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
