Slovenian Ambassador to Cairo Sašo Podlesnik, along with the Head of UNIDO Regional Office Jean Gilabert and the representative of the Egyptian Agricultural Research Center Ayman Abd El Aal, took part in the official opening of the agrodome greenhouse.

This came in Nuberia on Thursday with the participation of representatives of the Slovenian Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sport, as well as Duol and Lotrič Metrology companies.

The agrodome is a Slovenian part of the Development of an inclusive and sustainable tomato value chain project in Egypt.

In his address, the ambassador mentioned that the greenhouse represents a good example of Slovenian high-tech, innovative, and sustainable solutions and products.

He added that Slovenia's participation in the project contributes to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and reflects its intention to enhance excellent bilateral relations with Egypt in the agricultural domain.

In response to a question from "See.News" about European standards and the use of fertilizers that could hinder the export of Egyptian agricultural products to the EU, UNIDO official Marin Mizuno said "We are working to avoid all the obstacles that hinder the export of Egyptian crops to Europe, through technical centers, which are linked together; such as the Tomato Center at the Alexandria University and the Tomato Unit at the Research Center in Cairo, and through the “Agrodome” technology, which puts into consideration productivity and manufacturing."

Also, Žiga Judež, Program Manager at Duol company responded to another question by "See.News" on the economic feasibility of the project, emphasizing that the agrodome is not only limited to agriculture use but, there are other purposes for it, such as storage, saying: “Suppose you harvested potatoes at some point. If you want to store them for several months, this dome can be used as an ideal place to store potatoes."

Judež added that all conditions in the dome will be suitable by controlling the temperature between 10 to 15 degrees while maintaining the humidity level. Thus, potatoes can be sold at the required timming with the highest levels of quality.

"Opportunities are endless and limitless, and the Egyptian government can use this dome for different purposes. With this existing technology, all you have to do is come up with new ideas.”

"I feel very optimistic about this project. As for the power outage in Egypt, We have generators, that operate with diesel to meet the projects energy demand,” Duol company Program Manager concluded.
