On Monday, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned that the severe water shortage in Gaza has reached a critical level, with only one in ten people currently having access to safe drinking water.

Rosalia Pauline, a UNICEF official in Gaza, stated that 600,000 people had regained access to drinking water in November 2024, but supply was cut off again.

"It is absolutely essential for thousands of families and children to have access to water again," Pauline emphasized.

According to UN agencies, 1.8 million people, more than half of them children, urgently require water, sanitation, and healthcare assistance.

The situation has worsened further after Israel cut off electricity to the region on Sunday, disrupting critical water desalination operations.
