UNICEF Representative in Egypt, Natalia Winder Rossi, participated in a high-level multi-stakeholder meeting in Al-Arish during the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to North Sinai.
The meeting brought together representatives from international and national organizations, including UN agencies, the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, and global civil society actors. Discussions centered on the deepening humanitarian crisis and the critical need for a unified international response.
Speaking at the gathering, Rossi emphasized the urgency of protecting children—the most vulnerable victims of the conflict. She echoed calls for a sustained ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the guarantee of large-scale, unimpeded humanitarian access. Highlighting the pivotal role of partnerships, she said, “Children are bearing the brunt of this crisis. Our collective action is essential to meet both their immediate needs and long-term recovery.”
Marking her first official visit to North Sinai, Rossi also used the occasion to reaffirm UNICEF Egypt’s dedication to supporting all affected children, including those medically evacuated from Gaza and those in host communities across Egypt.
Since the onset of the conflict, UNICEF has worked closely with the Government of Egypt and the Egyptian Red Crescent to deliver lifesaving support. This includes the provision of medical supplies, deployment of mobile clinics, training of healthcare workers, and the creation of child-friendly spaces offering mental health support, safe recreation, and learning opportunities.
Moreover, UNICEF has rehabilitated water and sanitation systems at Sheikh Zuweid Hospital and is providing emergency cash assistance to help displaced families meet essential needs.
“Beyond emergency response, UNICEF is committed to strengthening national systems, enhancing community resilience, and ensuring every child’s right to healthcare, education, and protection,” Rossi said. “Every child deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to thrive. Our presence in North Sinai is not only about meeting today’s challenges—it’s about building a better tomorrow for all children.”
