UNICEF delivered life-saving medical supplies to Odesa, Ukraine to help 50,000 children in the war-torn regions of the European country, the world organization announced on Tuesday.

The delivered supplies included water purification devices, sanitation, and hygiene equipment as the children in those regions suffer from the lack of clean water. The hygiene kits and filters will be distributed to improve the children's health.

UNICEF Ukraine Representative Murat Sahin: “UNICEF is delivering life-saving supplies to important areas including Odesa and surrounds, so we can quickly respond to the most vulnerable families who are affected by the ongoing fighting and shelling in eastern Ukraine."

“Provision of safe water supplies and hygiene kits will help an estimated 50,000 children stay healthy in these challenging circumstances.”

The supplies will be also distributed to other regions that are close to the fighting spots such as Mykolaiv, which faced heavy shelling in the latest weeks.

In the same context, the European Union has taken a decision to extend its economic sanctions against Russia over its military operation in Ukraine for another six months.

The Council of the European Union (EU) announced today, Tuesday, in a statement that it decided to extend the restrictive measures targeting specific sectors of the Russian Federation’s economy for a period of six months, until January 31, 2023.

On July 22, the Council of the EU approved the seventh package of European sanctions against Russia, including a partial embargo on gold, and the blacklisting of 55 inpiduals and legal entities.

On its part, the Russian government noted that it expanded the list of unfriendly countries to include Greece, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Croatia.

The statement added that the list adopted by the government is not final, and can be expanded based on the hostile practices of foreign governments against Russian missions abroad.

The EU, after Russia launched its own military operation in Ukraine, on February 24, imposed seven packages of sanctions on Russia.
